Task 2 - Front Page (Research / case studies of real music magazines)

NME magazine is a different genre to XXL which is Rock. We can tell this is a rock magazine because of the clothing of the model which is black also the contrasting hair colour. My Chemical Romance is a very famous rock group. They have used a bright blue background. The masthead is a large bold font which is white and it is placed on top of the models head.it is also quite simple but nice. NME used a close up shot of the model. The hair colour of the model is red which directly links with part of the main cover-line ‘Gerard sees red’. The main cover line is at the bottom right corner with a bold white font, this is effective because it catches your eyes as soon as you look at the main image. The colour scheme for this magazine is Blue, White and Black with a little hint of red. They use quite a lot of pictures which are aligned with the barcode on the left side of the magazine. The structure of the whole magazine is the main image in the centre and the teasers/cover lines on either side of the image. The models eye line is directly straight ahead so it looks like it’s following us which is very eye-catching. 

XXL magazine is a different genre to NME which is R&B. We can tell this is an R&B/Hip hop magazine because of the model which is WAKA FLOCKA a very well know Hip hop artist also the model is covered with tattoos and flashy jewellery which a lot of hip hop/R&B artists are seen to be wearing in music videos. They have used a white background. The masthead is a large bold font which is white with a red background and it is placed behind the models head which is different to NMES. XXL used a mid-shot of the model. The main cover line is at the bottom left corner with bold green font and black layering around it, this is effective because it catches your eyes and pops out as soon as you look at the main image which would make you want to read the magazine. The colour scheme for this magazine is Green, White and Black with a little hint of red. They haven’t used any extra pictures compared NME. The barcode is place on the right side of the magazine. The structure of the whole magazine is the main image in the centre and the teasers/cover lines on either side of the image which is exactly like NME’S. Even though these 2 magazines have different genres they do use similar styles within their front page.
